Window TreatmentWindow Treatment

Window TreatmentSo, you just got your new windows. They are exactly what your home needed. Now comes the fun part; finding the window treatments that look perfect in your rooms. Window treatments are the cover or modification of the window meant to add to the aesthetic of your home. When it comes to finding the one that’s right for you, the sky’s the limit. Here are some window treatment types you can choose from.

Blinds

Slatted blinds are a classic look that never goes out of style. They can be vertical or horizontal and they are great for letting in just the right amount of light while maintaining privacy. No longer limited to white plastic, homeowners can choose from a wide selection of colors and materials.

Shutters

Shutters have the same basic idea as blinds being that you can position the openings to control light and privacy. However, their uniform design makes them sturdier than blinds and it also provides a vintage appearance that can work in traditional and Victorian style homes.

Drapery or Curtains

While drapery and curtains don’t give you as much control over sunlight and privacy, they have a soft look that adds a sense of luxury to home décor. With so many materials and colors to choose from, the potential of what you can do with them is amazing.

Shades

The concept of shades is pretty simple. You tug on a string and the material rolls up above the window to let in light. You can also tug downwards to lock shades in place to let in some light or completely cover the window. Shades are available in blackout and sheer fabrics and they can be combined with curtains. They come in a wide variety of colors and prints and bring a sleek, modern look to interior design.

Skylight Shades

Skylights are a great way to bring additional light and heat into the house, but when the sun gets too much, you will want a way to turn down the heat. Light filtering and blackout skylight coverings are both available options that can even add insulation to your home. Hard to reach skylight shades may require an extension pole to operate.

Outdoor Awnings

You can deal with light and privacy from the exterior of your home with an outdoor awning. Awnings are available in retractable and stationary varieties. They are great for adding shade to the patio and they will keep light out of the front of the home as well.

Valence

In window treatments, a valence is simply a decorative element. It is a shorter piece of fabric that hangs over the existing window treatment to hide the drapery hardware. It is most commonly used with drapery and curtains, but it can also be combined with shades.
